Launch the MS Word on your computer and create a blank document.
Untick ‘Let Windows manage my default printer’ and then select the printer you want to use. Here are the detailed steps to Repair a Word document that refuses to open. Switch to the Printers and scanners panel. Press Windows Key + I to open Settings. You can try to change your default printer without using a different user account, however, in case it doesn’t work, you will have to change it using another user account. In such a case, you will have to change your default printer. MS Word might not be able to access the printer due to which it doesn’t boot up. I repeated the process of deleting and then re-installing Microsoft Office 2003, but this time Word did not open at all afterward. Instead of opening with a blank Word document, the newer versions open with a default start screen that allows users to choose from variety of document templates. Office, including Word, worked for about one day and then Word would not open like before. Unlike previous versions, the newer versions of Microsoft Word (2013 and later) do not open a blank Word document, whenever you start the Microsoft Word program on your computer. I deleted Microsoft OfficeĢ003 and re-installed it. 
I tried a repair installation from the disk but that didn't work. It worked fine for several days, but then suddenly Word wouldn't open again. I installed Microsoft Office 2003 on my new computer.
